What happens when the things you learn never to talk about become the things you finally have to say out loud? That question sits at the heart of Matt B.'s story. He grew up with silence, carried it into adulthood, and spent years hiding both his drinking and his identity.

This is not a story about getting everything right at once. It is about a man who reached a point where hiding was no longer possible, made a call for help, and discovered that recovery could begin with the next meeting, the next honest conversation, and the willingness to keep coming back.

Recovery did not ask Matt to become someone else. It gave him a place to stop hiding who he already was.

Matt talks with us about the people and practices that helped him build a different kind of life: treatment, fellowship, service, a meeting buddy who became his husband, and the slow work of rebuilding trust with his son. Near the end, he shares the meaning behind the anniversary coin he gives his son each year.

"Every day you can start the day with that first step."
