    Picture
"I have to stop and think about what I do every day. I have to go, 'Okay, I'm going to have a snack. Am I going to eat the whole box? Or am I actually going to have a snack?' You know because one is addictive behavior and one is not. It’s how I'm responding to life. If I can't seem to handle life and I have to go to something to make me feel better, I'm living in the addiction, not the recovery."
    — Patty O’

But once you're in the program, it's a we program, right? It's not just solo. And, there's a saying in my old home group on the wall, … there's no wrong way to get sober.  And what does that mean? It means that the way I got sober doesn't mean the way you have to get sober. Or each of us, right? So if you're going to go to a different 12 step meeting or not a 12 step meeting and you have a therapist or not have a therapist or have a clergyman or a rabbi or an Ayman, whatever it may be. And it gets you through and staying recovered.  That's what helps, right? A rehab, whatever it may be, there's no wrong way to get recovered.

RRP SHOW 010: Running Towards Recovery: Transforming Lives with GTD (Go the Distance)

GTD addiction recovery program, physical activity in addiction recovery, Go the Distance recovery stories, Real Recovery Podcast episode GTD, community support for addiction recovery
The biggest lesson I have is that this too shall pass.  Amen. This, too, shall pass. Amen! Don't drink. Don't use drugs. Hang on. No matter what. It'll go. And whatever you're worried about, whatever you're thinking and you're, what you think in your head is such a big deal. It's not. It is not a big deal. There is nothing that is such a big deal. No matter what, there's just nothing that is so big. And if you can call somebody and tell them and be honest and say, this is what I think is such a big deal. Eventually, you'll work it out. You'll work it out, and tomorrow will come; you won't even remember what that problem was.
